What are Alloy Steels?
Alloy steels are steel products that are combined with additional elements to achieve improvements in their mechanical properties. Some of the more common types of alloyed steel include chromium molybdenum steel, chromium vanadium steel, and silicon manganese steel.
These mechanically superior metals are produced through a process called alloying, which is when carbon steel is combined with alloying elements such as copper or aluminum.
The alloying process results in a finished product that offers some major benefits over pure carbon steel. These benefits include:
- Increased tensile strength
- Increased corrosion resistance
- Increased durability
- Increased hardenability
- Higher degrees of thermal and electrical conductivity
- Greater wear resistance
These and other benefits are essential for use in certain key industries, among them the aerospace, construction, and automotive industries—and as your metal alloy supplier, we’ve got the materials you need.
Maraging Steel Supplier
As a trusted steel supplier, we are committed to providing our clients with a variety of specialty products, including maraging steel.
While technically a different classification than steel alloys, maraging steels share many of the qualities of alloy steel products. A type of steel alloy that contains iron, nickel, and/or cobalt – as well as other elements like molybdenum, titanium, and aluminum – maraging steels are known for their exceptional strength, toughness, and resistance to wear and corrosion. And like alloys, they come in various types, each with its own unique compositions and mechanical properties. The most common maraging steels are maraging 250, maraging 300, and maraging 350.
