What Is Upset Forging?
Upset forging is a manufacturing process that plastically deforms metal under great pressure into high strength components of varying sizes. This forging process is ideal for longer shapes where only one end of a part needs to be forged. Upset forging increases cross-section by compressing the length, this is used in making heads on bolts and fasteners, valves and other similar parts.
Benefits of Upset Forging:
- Aligns and optimizes the grain flow
- Exhibit better levels of strength and soundness
- Finished products resist deformation and breakage during use, perfect for high performance
- Eliminates weaknesses in the material: such as micro-shrinkage, gas porosity, and areas of low density
